Paris Combo features musicians from
the world over. The band consists of French native Belle Du Berry
(vocalist/accordionist), Australian David Lewis (piano/trumpet),
Madagascan Mano Razanajato (contrabass/guitar/percussion),
Mediterranean Potzi (guitar) and French Francois-Francois
(drums/percussion/xylophone).
The musical input of these diverse cultures and talents
produces a sound much grander than the French cabaret chansons on
which the group's songs are built.
Paris Combo adheres to a conviction that music is organic. Its
members eschew modern technologies like synthesizers and devices
that alter sounds in favor of traditional instruments. The band
defines its acoustic sound as "classic," with a modern edge.
The band formed in 1995 when Belle, Potzi and Francois played
together in a number of different projects before being joined by
David and Mano. In 1997, the group released its self-titled album
and received rave reviews on both sides of The Atlantic. Critics
applauded Paris Combo's clever compositions, precise arrangements
and inspired lyrics. Its musical melting pot combines flamenco,
Mediterranean, gypsy, latin, jazz, swing and French musette
sounds.
Given the fact that France continues to embrace the music and
sounds of so many diverse cultures, it's no wonder why the group's
music celebrates the rich diversity of past and contemporary
Paris. Viva la Paris Combo! |
