Who's Michelle Listening To?
These days I'm listening to my iPod Shuffle. It holds about 250 songs and I've completely filled it with Gospel, ranging from the Golden Gate Quarter, Arizona Dranes and Blind Willie Johnson thru to Mahalia Jackson and Dorothy Love Coates thru to the Staples Singers and on into the contemporary Praise and Worship of Kurt Carr, Hezekiah Walker, Jonathan Butler, Judith McAllister and Kirk Franklin. If my head was a radio station, it would be "All Gospel, All the Time."
It seems like I've always listened to music this way, from my earliest influences of Blues and Singer-Songwriters and later of Bluegrass and Hardcore and Jump Swing.
I wish I found the process of emerging culture in my own time more compelling, but I seem to enjoy infusing my brain with continuums instead.
The last contemporary artist that I really fell head over heels with was a few years ago, first as Frou Frou and now just the solo artist Imogen Heap...
