From
the Editor:
Speak Up! Be Heard!
Our
new AtlasPlugged newsletter is just 4 issues old and like any
creative project is still evolving.
We've been particularly focused on
the growth of a populist movement in the industry that is fed by
astute Indie trail blazers & often assisted by technological
innovations.
We've looked at how artists on
various rungs of the ladder are tending to their own careers. How
established artists such as such as Roger
McGuinn, Sanada
Maitreya (formerly known as Terrance Trent D'arby) and Ben Folds
Five drummer Darren
Jessee for example, are now taking an Indie route to continue
their music and their careers.
Like many of you, these artists are
harnessing technologies such as P2P payment systems, recording and
editing software and online distribution methods to achieve their
Independent vision.
Other stories have followed emerging
acts such as Jagstar
& Waking
Norman who by engaging Uncle Sam as their booking agent found
more than just new performance opportunities and growing fan bases.
And we've examined how social
activism can affect a music
career; a special tribute to Johnny
Ramone, and much more.

Stories scheduled for AlasPlugged 05
will continue to focus on the expanding horizon - how politics,
technology and a willingness to work outside of last century's
business model will fuel the future of the music industry.
As we close out 04' we've gone to
pundits for their predictions for the future of the industry. But we
all really want to know is your take; your particular birds eye
view.
So in 2005 we'll be adding a new
section to our newsletter and our site - starring You!
Beginning with this edition of
AtlasPlugged is a posted question. Your responses may be included in
future editions of the newsletter and at our site with a clickable
link back to your site.
To kick things off, we'd like to
promote the Indie artists & releases that you think deserve more
attention. So tell us what albums released in 04 are staples in your
required listening pile.
Please include your name, email &
what aspect of the business you're involved in.
Here's wishing you all joy and
success in your goals.
