
IMA Winners Featured All Month Long
On CIMS Listening Stations

Music consumers eager to discover and purchase choice new music will find the Winners of the 7th Annual IMAs featured on listening stations and in retail bins of some of the most influential music retailers nationwide.
Throughout July, stores affiliated with the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) will showcase the “Now Hear This” IMA Winners CD on listening stations throughout the U.S. The winners’ own releases will be available for sale in CIMS member stores’ bins.
Distribution for artists without traditional brick & mortar retail placement was arranged by the IMAs and program sponsor Burnside Distribution Corporation.
According to CIMS President Don Van Cleave, “The Independent Music Awards
is a prestigious international program that brings attention to artists who are traditionally underserved by mass media and big box retailers. The IMA winners
CD represents the diversity of today’s vibrant indie scene and includes music from artists previously on major labels as well as indie label and self-released
talent. Our CIMS members are proud to be a part of the IMA program and to promote these worthy artists in their stores.”

IMA Showcase At This Year’s CMJ

Music Resource Group (MRG) and CMJ will present an Independent Music Awards showcase at the 2008 CMJ Music Marathon to be held in New York City, from October 21-25. In related news, CMJ has joined other influential music industry organizations including eMusic, Pure Volume, mvyradio, The Planetary Group, ManiaTV & The StreamTV among others, as a sponsor of the 8th annual IMA program.
The showcase will feature an impressive line-up of indie artists awarded top honors by the IMAs. More details about the IMA/CMJ showcase including date and venue, will be announced later in the year.
“CMJ is one of the most dynamic platforms for showcasing new artists and music on an international scale” said IMA Program Director, Martin Folkman. “A CMJ Showcase for IMA talent is an ideal stage for us to present some of the very best domestic and international talent making noise in the independent music community.”
5 New Categories Added to 8th Annual IMAs
Expanding upon a broad range of music and design categories, 3 new music categories and 2 photography categories have been added to the upcoming program.
In the music arena, industry leaders in the Holy Hip Hop and Gospel community such as "Kurtis Blow" Walker and Christopher 'Play' among others suggested by
the Fellowship of Holy Hip Hop, will join the IMA judging panel to determine the winners in the Holy Hip Hop Song and Album categories for the upcoming 8th annual IMA program. By adding Holy Hip Hop categories to its diverse program, the IMAs becomes one of the few mainstream awards programs to honor excellence by artists in this genre (best Rap Gospel was added to the Recording Academy’s Grammy program 2 years ago).
Honors will also be awarded for Contemporary Classical Album and Cover Song.
New Design awards will honor the valiant photographers who risk life and limb in the pit while capturing a live Indie performance will be recognized in the
Concert Photography category, while those who use their artistic eye to compose an alluring band image will be acknowledged in the Artist/Band Publicity Photo category.
Both image categories are open to all photographs taken of live performances or press photos of an independent musician or band.

Winners of the 7th IMA Program To Be Included In This Year's Judging Panel

A new tradition will be launched for the upcoming IMA program – past winners will now help determine the next round of IMA artists, along with the programs’ roster of celebrity & industry judges. “Music Resource Group and the Independent Music Awards is focused on expanding indie opportunities and alliances says IMA program Director, Martin Folkman.“Giving previous winners a voice in the judging process will strengthen the ties and nurture a greater sense of community and commitment to excellence.”

Amit Erez
(Vox Populi Folk/Singer-Songwriter Song Winner, 7th Annual IMAs)
In the Israeli rock scene Amit Erez is recognized as an outstanding and respected musician where he performs both as a contemporary singer/songwriter and as the guitarist of the eclectic-rock band Eatliz. He recently produced a video for his IMA Vox Populi winning song, “Postcard.” This premiere clip from his self-titled album (Anova Records 2007) was directed by Yuval and Merav Nathan and can be seen at www.myspace.com/amiterez.
