Winners of the 7th Annual
Independent Music Awards
To Be Featured At The Nation’s Most Influential Record Stores
April 28, 2008 – Montclair, NJ – Beginning this summer, music consumers eager to discover and purchase choice new music will find established and emerging independent artists, the Winners of the 7th Annual
Independent Music Awards (IMAs), featured on listening stations and in retail bins of some of the most influential music retailers nationwide.
Throughout July, the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) will showcase the “Now Hear This” IMA Winners CD featuring music of all the Independent Music Award Winners selected in the 7th annual IMA program on listening stations throughout the U.S. The artists’ own releases will be available for sale and marked as IMA Winners in all CIMS member stores’ bins.
“Contrary to what’s reported in the media, music customers are not extinct,” said Martin Folkman, Director of the Independent Music Awards. “CIMS outlets are regarded as destination stores for music fans because those retailers are as knowledgeable and passionate about good music as their customers. These stores are a reliable portal for discovering new music. And exposing their discerning customers to the winners of the Independent Music Awards benefits artists, fans and retailers.”
According to CIMS President Don VanCleave, “The Independent Music Awards is a prestigious international program that brings attention to artists who are traditionally underserved by mass media and big box retailers. Our retail members focus on delivering a unique experience to their customers. The IMA winners CD represents the diversity of today’s vibrant indie scene and includes music from artists previously on major labels as well as indie label and self-released talent.”
The 41 tracks on the IMA Winners CD features music from artists including Koko Taylor, Ernie Watts, The Apples In Stereo, Joan As Police Woman, Girl In A Coma, Lionel Loueke, Miguel Migs, Marco Benevento, and a wide variety of other noteworthy artists selected by this year’s program.
The winners of the 7th annual IMA program were announced in December, 2007, and were selected by a distinguished evaluation panel including: Snoop Dogg, Susan Tedeschi, Les Claypool, Suzanne Vega, Ray Davies, Mavis Staples, Charlie Musselwhite, Judy Collins, Martin Atkins, Martin Atkins, Kevin Lyman (Vans Warped Tour), Chris Douridas (DJ/Tastemaker), Carrie Hughes (MTV Music Supervisor), Josh Rabinowitz (Grey Advertising), and Tim Riley (Activision), among others.
